HISTORY ...

In August 1974, a small group of apartment owners and managers—together with some interested business representatives—met to form the Harlingen Area Apartment Association. In May 1974, a similar group in Brownsville had begun the Cameron County Multi-Housing Association. Recognizing their mutual interest, these two groups met in September 1975 to form the Rio Grande Valley Apartment Association (RGVAA), and extended their scope to include all of the Lower Valley.

Thirty-five years later, the RGVAA has nearly 300 active members—including owners, managers, management companies and product/service suppliers—representing more than 18,000 rental units located from Rio Grande City, Mission, McAllen and Edinburg to Pharr, Weslaco, Harlingen, San Benito, Brownsville and SPI.

Our focus is on communication, legislation, education and providing services to members and the community. In conjunction with the National Apartment Association (NAA) and the Texas Apartment Association (TAA), we closely monitor potential laws which could affect our industry. Membership in the local association automatically enrolls you as a member of both NAA and TAA. Each of the Associations work on behalf of all members—whether they own just a few, or a great many rental units.

All those who are interested in participating in a non-profit, trade organization dedicated to orderly growth and development, high standards of construction and business ethics, and to the protection of the interests of both apartment residents and owners, are cordially invited to join the RGVAA in working to help make the Valley a more attractive, more prosperous, and more dynamic area in which to live and work.
