How can we help you?

Networking...
Through our affiliation with the Texas Apartment Association (TAA) we have more than 10,400 members representing 1.7 million renters throughout the state--300 members representing 19,000+ rentals are here in our  lower Rio Grande Valley.

Hot Industry Issues
TAA revises leases and related addenda.
As always in the months following the end of a legislative session, TAA works hard to overhaul our Lease Contract and related forms, as well as the REDBOOK and REDBOOK Online, to incorporate any changes mandated by the legislature.

Members can log in to see a comparison version of the lease and other forms, which highlight the revisions in this cycle, at http://www.taa.org/membersOnly/?article_id=2480. (Please be patient, since the pdf file is large and may take several minutes to load.)

Revised forms were available beginning November 9th to users of TAA's computer-based lease forms. Printed versions will be available from RGVAA in mid December

Legislative Efforts...
For more that 40 years, TAA has represented all aspects of the rental housing industry with a full-time presence at the state capitol and before more than 20 state regulatory agencies. The RGVAA Political Action Committee (PAC) investments are used to promote and support these efforts.NEW!

New laws affecting the industry take effect January 1, 2010.
While the majority of the laws passed by the 2009 Texas Legislature either took effect immediately or on September 1, 2009, some of the bills that will have the greatest impact on rental property owners and managers will take effect on January 1, 2010. TAA traditionally seeks delayed effective dates for bills affecting landlord/ tenant laws to ensure there is adequate time to educate property owners and managers, as well as to update the TAA Lease Contract and forms and develop the new edition of the REDBOOK.

This session there were also a number of key bills that were part of the appraisal reform legislation that also have a January 1 effective date. Visit www.taa.org and click on TAA News for more details.
